1964 Vespa GS160 Series 2 (BM451)

This 1964 GS 160 is a bike with significant history, featuring an extensive redesign and updating from the prior GS150 model.  A recent restoration that presents very well and is mechanically redone showing just 1,458 kilometers on the odometer.  Comes with an FMI certification and plaque.  Upgrades included a complete refinishing with professional paintwork, a new Aquila dual saddle, new Michelin tires and a full mechanical inspection. Overall excellent condition, everything works, runs well and looks sharp.  A great Vespa for a serious collector.

Introduced in 1962 the Vespa GS160 was a virtually all new design and Vespa’s top of the line model.  Styling follows a flowing aesthetic with voluptuous rear cowls.  These are removable for engine access on one side and a spare tire on the other.  This is a Series 2 which featured a large glovebox on the back of the leg shield.  Various unique details make the GS 160 an iconic Vespa model including the Bi-level tail light, the curvaceous rear cowl panels and the clean lines of the leg shield and headstock.  Production of the Series II GS was approximately 31,000 units in 1963 and 1964.

The GS 160 motor was all all new, upgraded in many details and develops 8.9HP.  The electrical system was also improved with better lighting and higher output. Brakes and suspension were revised to provide improved control and ride comfort.  Performance and handling set a new standard back in the day.  Top speed is over 60 mph, brakes and chassis ready to comfortably deal with that velocity .  The GS 160 is very quick and a joy to ride. A vintage machine that can handle modern traffic, it is a very solid scooter.  The engineering was all new and a clear step into the future for Vespa.  Vespa enthusiasts regard the GS 160 as one of the best classic models.
