1968 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750 (D248)
Sharp fresh repaint, very thorough recent mechanical restoration, redone interior, all details attended to, superb example. Fully sorted, never rusted, solid body. Looks great, drives better.
This beautiful GTV Coupe offers all of the most desirable features and specifications of the 1750 series of this iconic model. This example was discovered by our team in Italy in very good overall condition cosmetically and mechanically. The body was straight and sound, with no evidence of any prior damage or structural rust. We then proceeded with a very comprehensive mechanical and interior restoration to raise the car to the next level and more.
Exterior bodywork was in great shape with smooth lustrous paint from a recent respray. There was minimal exterior and engine bay surface rust, but no structural rust whatsoever. We dealt with any issues professionally and repainted the engine compartment. Glass, trim, badges etc. all in very good condition.
The engine and transmission were pulled, thoroughly inspected and found to be in sound condition. Valves were adjusted and compression checked - OK. The odometer shows 31k km, but actual total mileage is unknown. All suspension components were removed, inspected and replaced or reconditioned as required and powder coated. All bushings and ball joints were replaced. The rear axle was removed and fitted with new bearings and seals. Brakes were completely redone and fitted with new lines. Radiator was cleaned and reconditioned. A new exhaust system is fitted. New tires fitted to GTA style wheels. Overall the underside and all running gear is in exceptional condition.
The interior shows beautifully with fresh upholstery in black Leathertex and wood trim in good shape. the 1968 model featured a very attractive twin pod dash with an artfully swept center console flowing into the dash. The classic Alfa wood rim steering wheel is in excellent condition. The dash was removed and all wiring, lights and instruments reconditioned as needed. The heater core was flushed and reconditioned. All electrical wiring has been inspected and serviced as required.
This car was originally delivered to the Italian market and, as a European model, is fitted with dual Weber carburetors. The 1750 version of Alfas classic DOHC four cylinder has a delightful running character with more power and torque than the 1600 and smoother revving compared to the 2 liter variant. Alfa’s trademark tall shift lever handles the selection chores for the 5-speed gearbox admirably. As a 1967 model it is also exempt from California smog testing.
This Alfa Romeo coupe delivers all of the excitement and nuance for which the 1750 series GTV is noted. The delightful chassis responds crisply to the accurate steering, the ride is supple and composed, the brakes are smooth and powerful and the engine sings a pleasant note with each snap of the gearshift.
No issues, no problems, all lightness and joy on the road.
Very desirable model and year, professional and thorough refit of an essentially excellent example. Classic color combination with a beautiful body and interior. A very fine example of the type, sure to delight any Alfa Romeo enthusiast for years to come.
