1972 FIAT 500 L Cinquecento Originale (D337) Offered at $25,975

The car is a professionally restored 1972 FIAT 500 L in excellent cosmetic and running condition. An exceptional example, we purchased this classic from a FIAT enthusiast in northern Italy.  The prior long time owner completed all restoration work and finished this 1972 FIAT 500L in as close to original condition as possible. Odometer shows just 25,779 km / 16,018 miles TMU. We had a full service performed and all mechanical issues addressed by a FIAT specialist in Italy prior to importing the car to San Francisco.  Overall one of the cleanest and most original Cinquecentos we have seen.

Bodywork and paint was restored to a very high standard a few years ago. The body was stripped down to bare metal as needed, all rust and corrosion fully addressed, seam sealant applied and a very professional paint job completed.  The unit body is thus virtually better than new.  A fabric sunroof is fitted for open air motoring. Period correct details include Fiat badging, chrome bumpers with guards and a luggage rack, all in fine condition.  Attractive original wheels with hubcaps and new tires are fitted and set a jaunty style accent.

The interior features new upholstery and carpets. Seats are saddle tan vinyl.  Steering wheel and instrument binnacle are original.  Door panels and rear seating area also fully refreshed. 

We had our shop in Italy go thru it and prep for service before being shipped to San Francisco. The engine was serviced  as required given the low mileage and driven very little since. Recent work included a new clutch, replaced sump gasket and crankshaft oil seal, replaced exhaust manifold gaskets, changed engine and transmission oil. Also replaced the engine mounts and axle boots. Additional work included electrical system service and lights.

This FIAT 500L starts, rides and runs like new, and is a joyous celebration of simpler times and uncomplicated machinery.  Excellent condition overall, no issues, no problems.  This Fiat is a beauty, ready to drive and enjoy as the perfect city car.

ABOUT THE FIAT 500L
The 500 L (Lusso) model was the top of the line with many upgrades over the standard 500. The interior was completely redesigned and modernized for the Lusso. In production only four years (1968 to1972) it is considered by many to be the most desirable and collectable model of the 500 series.
Only 117” long - fits anywhere - still has room for 4.

Launched as the Nuova (new) 500 in 1957 and following in the long tradition of mini compact Fiat city cars that began with the Topolino of the late 40’s the Nuova was an instant success. In production thru 1975 there were several detail upgrades and this 1971 500L model incorporates the most significant of those. Considered by many to be the ultimate “City Car”, the Nuova 500 was very popular all across Europe. None of the subsequent models ever possessed the charm and fun-to-drive feeling of this series.
The shapely body sits on a 72.4” wheelbase and is a trim 117” long, ideal for parking in the city. With a svelte curb weight of only 1,200 lbs and powered by a robust twin cylinder 500cc engine, performance is lively around town and adequate for country lanes. Fuel economy is outstanding.

A 4-speed manual transmission provides a wide range of gearing for climbing steep urban hills to an open road top speed around 60 mph. The ride is notably supple and the handling crisp and accurate.

The 500 L is quite simple mechanically and considered to be reliable and durable, and easy to maintain.  Parts are readily available and relatively inexpensive.
