1983 Laverda 1000 RGS (D332)
Museum quality restoration of this flagship of the Laverda triple series recently completed by the team at Museo Moto Laverda in Breganze. The restoration of a very low mile straight and sound example included a full mechanical and cosmetic refresh to exceptionally high standards. Odometer reads only 273 miles, reset at the completion of the restoration, and the RGS presents beautifully. A super cool, very rare and entirely special motorcycle. Exceptional in all regards and in virtually as new condition. All mechanicals have been inspected and refreshed and the cosmetic restoration is flawless. This Laverda is ready for display or sport touring adventure. One of the most collectable Laverda models, 1000 RGS features elegant, aerodynamic body work and exceptional performance. Powered by a uniquely tuned 120-degree Jota engine that distinguished the RGS from Laverda's other 1,000cc triples with a unique sport touring power curve. Styling details include an aerodynamic half-fairing that blends smoothly into the generously sized fuel tank. Chassis mods included a lowered frame and altered steering geometry that made the RGS more stable and easier to handle. It can reach 140mph and turn the standing quarter mile in a little over 12 seconds. Truly the high point of the Laverda legacy.
ABOUT THIS MODEL
The RGS 1000 was a new generation model born in the early 1980s featuring the evolution of previous 3 cylinder Laverda models. A notable motorcycle, renowned for its distinctive design and impressive performance. The RGS featured a distinctive, angular design that was quite modern for its time. It had a full fairing, which was relatively uncommon for sport-touring bikes of the era, enhancing both aerodynamics and rider comfort. It was fitted with a new 120° timing 3-cylinder 981cc engine designed by engineer Giuseppe Bocchi, mounted on silent blocks in a new design frame. Developed for mid range torque and smoother running, it displays very sophisticated behavior, strong acceleration and a very unique sound. The bodywork is integrated and enveloping, the result of aerodynamic studies carried out by designer Giuseppe Ricciuti. The acronym RGS stands for “Real Gran Sport” noting that this machine was designed to please both performance enthusiast and grand touring riders. The RGS came with a range of features including a sophisticated suspension setup, dual disc brakes up front, and a relatively advanced electrical system for its time. The RGS was the fastest street bike ever built by Laverda in both top speed and the exciting rush out of corners. With its powerful engine and well-designed chassis, the RGS offered impressive handling and stability. It was praised for its sporty ride quality and the ability to handle long distances with relative ease. The RGS is considered a classic in the motorcycle world, admired by collectors and enthusiasts for its unique blend of sport and touring capabilities.
