1956 VESPA 150 HANDLEBAR (C-155)

This is an extremely nice 1956 Vespa that has been in storage for some time. We originally restored this scooter from the ground up in our Italian restoration shop. The original color suits the lines of the body very well. We rebuilt the motor, replaced all the internal parts, installed new electrical wiring, new control cables, new seat covers, and the list goes on. We outfitted the scooter with what were probably the most common options back in the day, the rear passenger seat, spare tire, and speedometer. We essentially built a new scooter all the way around. What a beauty!  You would be hard-pressed to find a better ‘56 Vespa in North America.

The 1956 Vespa 150 Handlebar was a popular touring model in the mid 1950’s. The styling features voluptuous curves and sweeping lines.  Unique details include the cast headlight and speedometer mount, chrome handlebar with cable operated gear shift and clutch, and a solo saddle with a removable pillion seat attached to a sturdy rear rack.  A spare tire is mounted to the legshield and the front fender sports a metallic accent piece. The side cowls are beautifully shaped covering the engine with louvers on the right and offering a lockable compartment on the left.  The taillight has a simple rectangular case. The overall look is truly classic and iconic.  Generally considered more artful than the later models.

These Vespas are fitted with a 146cc piston ported motor and 3 speed gearbox.  Well known for dependable operation and consistent reliability. Performance is modest by today’s standards. Wheel size is 8” and handling is steady and the ride is comfortable.

The wide frame legshield provides protection and the seating position is spacious and comfortable.  The 1956 Vespa 150 Touring recalls a life lived at a more relaxed pace.
